Why become a partner

The Business Trust enables companies to do together what they can't do on their own:

  • Demonstrate the commitment of leading companies to the concerted development of South Africa.
  • Forge a strategic alliance with the government in order to achieve agreed national objectives.
  • Achieve identifiable impact by undertaking programmes synchronized with national priorities at a scale that will have notable impact.
  • Provide integrated management organised to produce independently evaluated targeted results within a defined time frame at a cost of less than 10% of the value of contracted funds.
  • Benefit from joint business/government oversight of these programmes by a high level board of directors which includes heads of major corporations and cabinet ministers.
  • Respond positively to the invitation from the President to work in partnership to promote reconciliation, reconstruction, development and growth.

Tax efficiency:

As a public benefit organisation the Business Trust is exempt from the payment of income tax. Donations made to the Trust will be tax deductible in the hands of the donors in respect of all those activities that qualify as public benefit activities. This will further extend the degree of tax deductibility for donors from the over 50% achieved during 1999 - 2004.
