The Business Trust Long Run which started at the Drakensberg Amphitheatre on the 17 February was met Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka on the slopes of Table Mountain on Tuesday 28 of February. The run traveled through Kestell, Bethlehem, Bloemfontein, Hanover, Springfontein, Victoria West, Beaufort West, Oudtshoorn, Robertson, Wellington and into Cape Town.

The event was a tremendous success. "This run has brought together people from the country's leading companies, from government and from the local communities through which we have traveled. It has demonstrated the value of partnership, the commitment of business and the contribution of the Business Trust to meeting South Africa's challenges. With the participation of some of South Africa's sporting greats, business personalities, and government leaders we have been reminded of the magic of this country, and the commitment of so many South Africans to its success." said Brian Whittaker, Chief Executive of the Business Trust.

The 2006 Long Run had enormous support from some of South Africa's greatest sporting heroes and heroines. Where else could you find Lucas Radebe, Graeme Smith, Baby Jake Matlala, Francios Pienaar, Bruce Fordyce, Willie Mtolo, Deshun Deysel, Sarah Mahlangu, Thomas "The Hit Man" Mashabe, Nick Bester, James Perry, Donavan Cech and Ramon De Clemente in the same event? Add to this Idols finalist Kesha, Kabelo of TKZ, Egoli star David Vlok, Sophie Ndaba from generations and many others. Include the heads of South Africa's leading corporations, cabinet ministers, Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo Ngcuka and over 850 runners drawn from Business Trust companies, government departments and local projects. And most importantly the extraordinary men and women from South Africa's oft forgotten towns along the way who work to improve their lives and those of the people around them.
